Here's a little food for thought for my foodie friends who just happen to be entrepreneurs.
Who wouldn't like a little box of rich and decadent Godiva chocolates waiting for them? And these lovely truffles are all the sweeter because they won't pack on the pounds.
These are virtual Godivas and like many other luxury gifts they're being traded between friends online daily.
In a recently released study, social media strategists and pioneers in branded virtual goods campaigns, AdNectar, found virtual gifts may be the best way to advertise on social networks as well as an excellent way for entrepreneurs to gauge a consumer's purchase intent.
In the Godiva study, researchers found consumers exposed to the virtual chocolate gift campaign created by AdNectar, 20 percent more likely to purchase a box of the gourmet chocolatrs within the next six months than those who were not exposed to the campaign.
With virtual goods reaching tens of millions of consumers daily, the opportunities are staggering.
